So the new platform process is starting from scratch?
What happens to the thousands of hours put into the Democratic platform at our Whatcom County convention, then the State convention this spring? And the thousands of hours 2 years ago by hundreds of volunteers, many of whom gave up work hours to do this? Does it all get thrown out for this new one? As a Democracy bond monthly donor and Dem PCO of the last 3 years, I wonder if the Obama campaign is running a parallel party? (I've also been a donor to his campaign, but am getting a little itchy again at some of his right-wing tendencies).

I doubt that the platform committee, composed as it is of very mainstream party types, is going to just pitch everything and accept planks only if they come out of these meetings. I'm also quite sure that most of what bubbles up from this exercise will be very mainstream Democratic sentiments.
We have an "Issues Forum" every two years in my house legislative district sponsored by the district Democratic Committee where we split up into groups of 10 or so and make issue lists with policy recommendations, and then reconvene and compare lists. Invariably, all the groups come up with very similar lists.
I see this as an opportunity to get Dems together in a room and see how much they have in common. And, who knows, some great ideas might come out of this synergy, too.
